It finally happened! Chris Sale won a game at Fenway in 2019. A start to the season that no one expected from him. Now with 4 wins and 9 losses on the season, Sale looks to take this win and build on what has been shaky season.
Sale has an era above 4 for the season, he hasn’t dominated the games he starts like he has done in the past. The Red Sox offense has started to be dominant just before the all star break and have carried it over after. Their bullpen has been awful this year, blowing 18 saves so far this season. Having their starting pitchers go deep into games is essential if they want to get back to the postseason. They especially need their ace to lead the way and set the example for the rest of the pitching staff.
Sale has been the first to critique himself after poor performances. He knows he needs to be better, and maybe today’s 12 strikeout, shutout performance against the Blue Jays is what he needed to get back in his groove.
