The 6x Pro Bowl running back was shockingly cut by the Buffalo Bills early this morning. One of the most exciting, running backs the NFL has had over the past 10 years. His elusiveness made him a highlight reel player almost every week. McCoy is only 31 years old and still has some gas left in the tank. So what teams could use a running back #1?
This choice makes the most sense for both sides. The Texans just lost Lamar Miller to a torn ACL in the preseason. They made a trade for Duke Johnson Jr. to try and add more running back depth. Johnson is a solid running back but he is not a solid number 1 option. LeSean McCoy would come in and get 15+ carries a game and he’s a pretty good pass catcher as well. Incorporating a running back of his caliber into an offense with Deandre Hopkins and Deshaun Watson could make them championship contenders this year.
Kenyan Drake is not a running back that should be the primary guy in an offense. Granted the Dolphins offense is not very good, upgrading to McCoy could at least help them be a more exciting team to watch. I’m not sure whether McCoy is looking for a ring or looking to get playing time and touches. But he could definitely get touches in Miami where there is not a lot of talent of the offensive side of the ball.
Kansas City Cheifs
McCoy being added to a lethal offense like the Cheifs already have could be very exciting. Mahomes already has elite targets in Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. McCoy would be sacrificing the targets he could get with teams that are not competing for a championship. If McCoy is looking for a ring, I think the Cheifs would be his best choice. Obviously the passing attack in KC is going to be the main focus for the team, but adding a talented running back to compliment that could take them to another level.
A homecoming to where it all started is a always a fun end to a career. Whether McCoy is going to call it a career after his next deal I don’t know. The Eagles could use more depth at the running back position, Jordan Howard would benefit from not being the workhorse in the backfield. I’m not sure if McCoy would be open to returning to Philly, but it would sure make a good headline.
McCoy definitely still deserves a spot on a roster in the NFL. I’m sure a team will sign him within the first few weeks of the season, if not before it starts.
What team wouldn’t want to add this type of talent
